Cobourg

Welcome to Cobourg

Where life slows down just enough

Located just an hour east of the Greater Toronto Area, Cobourg is more than a scenic stop – it’s a lifestyle upgrade. Known for its world-class white sand beaches, a majestic heritage downtown, and a community spirit that’s hard to find in the city, Cobourg offers the perfect blend of small-town safety and urban convenience.

Whether you’re commuting via VIA Rail or working from home with a view of the lake, you’ll find that life here simply feels better.

Cobourg Marina

With a population of around 20,000, Cobourg is a mid-sized town in Northumberland County. Given its relative proximity to the GTA, the city has benefited over the years from buyers relocating from the GTA, looking for a more manageable pace of life and the conveniences of a small-city living. Cobourg offers a historic downtown, and the city has both developed and preserved its waterfront including a public park (Victoria Park), an attractive public beach visited by thousands of tourists every summer, a marina for the boating crowd, high end condos, and a thriving concert hall at Victoria Hall.

Cobourg also offers a vibrant community reflected in a number of festivals and activities that draw tourists from every year, including the Waterfront Festival, the Sandcastle Festival, the Northumberland Rib Festival and Music Festival, and the Christmas Magic event.

Looking to escape to the great outdoors?  Whether you’re looking for hiking trails, wetlands, canoeing, fishing, or biking trails to explore, Cobourg has lots to offer! Conservation areas, parks, hiking and biking trails, waterways to canoe, fish, and swim, it’s all here in the Cobourg area!

The city also offers a unique historic side and has been designated a District Heritage District to preserve its historic charm. Some of the more iconic buildings include Victoria Hall, the architectural heart of the town, the Sifton Cook Heritage Centre (one of the oldest buildings in town), and the Marie Dressler House, the birthplace of the Oscar-winning actress.

Cobourg’s housing landscape includes a mix of historic neighbourhoods, post-war subdivisions, and newer residential neighbourhoods. Established areas near the downtown and east end are known for mature trees, older homes, and proximity to schools and waterfront amenities. These neighbourhoods tend to appeal to buyers looking for character homes and walkability to amenities.

Newer residential growth has occurred on the north and west sides of Cobourg, where larger subdivisions provide modern housing options. Developments such as East Village and nearby communities offer a range of housing types, including detached homes, townhouses, and low-rise residential buildings. These areas are generally designed with family living in mind, featuring newer infrastructure, parks, and easy access to major roads and Highway 401.

New Amherst Village is located in Cobourg’s west end; it has completed several phases of subdivision and offers a mix of residential options, ranging from townhomes to larger detached homes.

Special mention is given to the small communities of Baltimore and Grafton, both located close to Cobourg. Baltimore, located north of town, offers rural character with mature properties on larger lots appealing to buyers seeking a quiet, private, residential lifestyle within reach of larger town services and amenities. Located 10 minutes east of Cobourg is the hamlet of Grafton, with a population under 1,000, with a mix of rural century homes and high-end county developments such as Glens of Antrim from Stalwood Homes, with both phases already completed and sold out.
