Brighton

Welcome to Brighton

Located along the shores of Lake Ontario

Located along the shore of Lake Ontario, Brighton is the western gateway to the Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County. With a population of approximately 7,000 in the town and 12,000 across the municipality, Brighton offers a quiet, welcoming atmosphere that appeals to retirees, young families, and those connected to nearby CFB Trenton, Canada’s largest military air base. The town is known for its agricultural heritage, celebrated during the annual Applefest in late September, recognized as a Top 100 Festival for 2025 by Festivals and Events Ontario.

Brighton offers a charming downtown featuring local boutiques, cafés, and historic landmarks such as the Proctor House Museum.

Brighton

Brighton is closely connected to nature and recreation, anchored by Presqu’ile Bay – one of few naturally protected harbours on Lake Ontario – and Presqu’ile Provincial Park, which offers over 16 km of trails and paths along shorelines as well as through woodlands and meadows, world-renowned birdwatching during the spring and fall migrations, a 2.5 km sandy beach, picnic areas, over 300 campsites, all of which attract visitors year-round. Golf enthusiasts are also drawn to the area’s highly rated courses, including Timber Ridge Golf Course and Barcovan Golf Club, in addition to others in the immediate area. A strong community spirit is reflected through popular seasonal events such as Applefest, Waterfowl Weekend, Concerts in the Park, and the Brighton Street Dance. For boating enthusiasts, the Presqu’ile Yacht Club offers an active racing program on Saturdays during the summer months for the more competitive sailors, as well as fun races on Wednesday evenings.

The town offers a diverse mix of residential neighbourhoods. Established communities include among others, Brighton by the Bay, a well-known adult lifestyle community near Presqu’ile Park, along with smaller subdivisions such as Rosslyn Estates, Orchard Gate, Tackaberry Ridge, Mill Pond and the Roos Subdivision.

Brighton features a wide range of waterfront options, from canal-backed bungalows in Brighton Bay Estates to lakefront and bayfront homes along Bayshore Road, Lakeshore Road, and Harbour Street. Country properties on well and septic include century farms with acreage and custom-built houses for those seeking privacy and seclusion.

New developments such as Hamilton Woods, Butler Creek, Brighton Meadows, and Westgate Brighton provide modern detached homes, townhomes, and condominiums with contemporary layouts and nearby green space. Together, these neighbourhoods make Brighton an appealing choice for buyers seeking small-town living with strong community ties, natural beauty, and convenient access to Lake Ontario.

Brighton is a strong choice for every stage of life, from growing families to those seeking a refined adult lifestyle community. Young families are especially drawn to our academically strong schools, which offer diverse programs and pathways, including French Immersion and extended French, plus Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, designed to prepare students for any future. Our community spirit shines at East Northumberland Secondary School (E.N.S.S.), home to a championship-caliber Track and Field team that is a perennial provincial powerhouse and a Drama Club renowned for professional-grade productions that rival regional theater. Whether you’re raising a family or looking for a vibrant retreat, Brighton offers the perfect balance of opportunity and heart.
