Belleville

Welcome to Belleville

Belleville is the largest urban centre in the Bay of Quinte region

With approximately 61,000 residents, and as such, serves as a major centre for employment, healthcare, education, and retail. Located along Highway 401 to the north and the Bay of Quinte to the south, the city offers strong transportation access, including VIA Rail service, making it a practical choice for commuters and professionals working locally or throughout Eastern Ontario.

Belleville

The city is served by Belleville General Hospital, Loyalist College, and a broad commercial base. The Quinte Mall is the primary shopping destination for the region, featuring 125 stores and services while the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre is a state-of-the-art 330,000 square foot recreation complex with four ice pads (including the CAA Arena, home to the Belleville Senators AHL hockey team), three swimming pools, a running track, and gymnasium, along with community recreation, leisure, social, and cultural spaces, for young and elderly alike.

Belleville’s downtown district has undergone a revitalization with a mix of civic buildings and small businesses, offering independently-owned local shops and a mix of restaurants. The Empire Theatre was beautifully restored and brings in world-class musicians, comedians, and international films. The Belleville Farmers’ Market is located behind City Hall, and has been operating since the 1800s.

The City maintains over 500 acres of parkland at 55 locations, as well as over 45 km of well-groomed trails, maintained for year-round activities. Belleville’s waterfront is a recreation hub, offering beautiful trails, parks, and playgrounds, with many located along the Moira River and the Bay of Quinte.  Zwick’s Park (complete with dog park, toboggan hill, splash pad, playground, sports fields, covered pavilion, multi-purpose trails, and green space) is the site of numerous events, including Concerts On the Bay, Pop-Ups On the Bay market, Canada Day celebrations, Festival of Lights, and others. The Pirate Ship Park, located in the Riverside Park West along the Moira River, is a fun place for your wee captains and mates to run, climb, and be imaginative.

Belleville offers a wide range of neighbourhoods and subdivisions. Some of them include Belleville’s Old East Hill, located near the downtown area along the southeast side of the Moira River and featuring some of the city’s oldest residences of Victorian and Edwardian style, built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The City’s downtown core has predominantly older buildings with close access to restaurants and the waterfront trail along the Moira River. On the southwest side of the Moira River, neighbourhoods were built between the mid 1800s and mid 1900s, some of which offer two-storey buildings that have been converted into multifamily residences.
